Zero Waste Policy

Reuse Before Recycle

Here at Affinity Wholesale we reuse before we recycle all of the outer cardboard boxes and packaging as much as possible to pack your items to be posted out to you. This includes things like boxes, mailers, and paper which would have otherwise of been discarded.

There are plenty of ideas you yourself can come up with on upcycling cardboard and packaging. Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling, which is the other part of the recycling process. Downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials, sometimes of lesser quality. Most recycling involves converting or extracting useful materials from a product and creating a different product or material.

We fully support a zero waste economy both here in Ireland and the rest of the world where we are able to. At Affinity Wholesale we take our environmental responsibilities seriously.

Mulching With Cardboard

Once the cardboard and paper materials have reached the end of their reusable life and can no longer be used for outer packaging, Affinity Wholesale makes further use of these materials by sending them to local organic smallholdings for mulching or to use another word, for composting. Mulching is a great way to prevent weeds growing whilst improving the soil structure.

The worms seem to especially love corrugated cardboard. It’s always good to get them working away for you. Add a naturally high nitrogen source such as grass clippings and the card or paper disintegrates adding its carbon directly into the soil. This greatly improves the soil ecology in a natural way.
